Day of Infamy at StreamerHouse
Day of Infamy launched out of Steam Early Access in March 2017 from New World Interactive (Insurgency devs), a WWII tactical shooter that started as an Insurgency mod before becoming a standalone game. The pitch was Insurgency's hardcore gunplay transplanted to WWII—no HUD, realistic bullet physics, one-shot lethality, objective-focused gameplay across iconic battles like Normandy, Bastogne, and Operation Market Garden. The game featured class-based infantry combat with period-accurate weapons, vehicles (including drivable tanks in some modes), and a mix of PvP and co-op modes against AI. Reviews were positive from tactical shooter fans who appreciated the authenticity and difficulty, though some noted it felt like "Insurgency with WWII skins" rather than a transformative sequel. StreamerHouse's 385-viewer peak in 2017 came during the 1.0 launch when the community was active and servers were populated. The problem: Day of Infamy launched into a crowded WWII FPS revival (Battlefield 1 in 2016, COD WWII in 2017) and couldn't compete for playerbase against AAA marketing budgets. The game cultivated a small, dedicated community of mil-sim enthusiasts who valued realism over spectacle, but it never broke into mainstream success. Day of Infamy is the WWII shooter for players who think Battlefield is too arcadey and want to die from a single Kar98k shot from 200 meters while screaming into mic chat.
