Firewatch at StreamerHouse
Firewatch launched February 2016 with StreamerHouse hitting 904 viewers as Campo Santo's debut became the year's indie darling. The first-person mystery sold 500,000 copies in its opening month, generating $10 million revenue, and eventually surpassed 1 million sales (2.5 million by 2018). Critics praised the immersive Wyoming wilderness, brilliant sound design, and excellent dialogue between protagonist Henry and supervisor Delilah—IGN named it Adventure Game of the Year, PC Gamer called it Best Writing, and it won Unity Awards' Best 3D Visual Experience plus Golden Joystick's Best Indie Game. The BAFTA for Debut Game and GDC Award for Best Narrative cemented its critical success. However, reviews criticized technical issues and the ending's divisiveness—some players felt unsatisfied by the resolution after investing in the mystery. Polygon ranked it #4 GOTY despite flaws. Campo Santo's team included veterans from Walking Dead, Mark of the Ninja, and BioShock 2, explaining the narrative polish. Valve acquired the studio in 2018. StreamerHouse experiencing Firewatch in 2016 caught lightning in a bottle—debut indie success stories before the market became oversaturated.
