Gotham Knights at StreamerHouse
Gotham Knights launched October 21, 2022, with StreamerHouse hitting 564 viewers as WB Games Montreal's Batman-less Gotham became one of the year's most controversial releases. The game was plagued by performance issues—no 60fps Performance Mode on PS5/Xbox Series X|S (locked 30fps), often dropping below that target, and PC requiring expensive GPUs while stuttering even on RTX 3090 hardware. Critics and players were "torn" about the game, with Mixed reception due to bugs, tedious loot grind, and monotonous gameplay loops. The lack of 60fps on next-gen consoles was a "dealbreaker" that sparked outrage before launch. Despite this, the game sold well—second-best physical sales in UK, thirteenth in Japan—proving marketing could overcome criticism. WB Montreal released numerous patches through February 2023, prompting Digital Foundry's rare "re-review" in March: "All versions have been overhauled, night and day improvement versus launch code." Eurogamer confirmed it became a "perfectly decent experience" after fixes, hitting near-locked 30fps on consoles. StreamerHouse playing at launch captured the disaster before redemption—a good game buried under technical incompetence, eventually fixed but reputation permanently damaged. Sometimes shipping broken hoping to patch later destroys trust irreparably.
