Islands of Nyne: Battle Royale

Islands of Nyne: Battle Royale rolled into Early Access in July 2018 and we were there for what would become a cautionary tale. Define Human Studios had a solid BR concept—tropical islands, solid gunplay, the whole package—and our chat was engaged. Two hundred eighty-five peak viewers during that launch window. Three-point-three hours on-stream, 825 hours watched. But here's what we learned: great gameplay doesn't survive when the studio runs out of money by December and pivots to free-to-play limbo mode. We watched it happen in real time. Islands of Nyne became the kind of game that lives on in streaming archives, a reminder that even competent battle royales needed AAA backing to survive the BR gold rush.
