Magic: Legends at StreamerHouse

We jumped into Magic: Legends during the open beta in March 2021, drawn by Cryptic Studios' ambition to blend ARPG gameplay with Magic: The Gathering's deckbuilding. The card-based spell system promised something genuinely different. We streamed through the beta, exploring the systems, watching the monetization model take shape, noticing the performance issues. By June 2021—just three months after we started—Cryptic announced the shutdown. October 31st servers going dark. No full release. No console versions. 44 employees lost their jobs. We pivoted to farewell streams, broadcasting those final months when the devs gave full refunds and free premium access to everyone. StreamerHouse preserved Magic: Legends' brief moment in the sun, a 737-viewer peak that captured people curious about what an MTG action-RPG could be, even if Cryptic never got to answer that question fully.

Magic: Legends Twitch Statistics

We streamed 78.8 hours across 2021, accumulating 24,428 hours watched from an average of 296 viewers. Those 35 followers we gained came during the open beta hype, before the shutdown rumors. The numbers show real interest in an MTG-adjacent game, but interest couldn't overcome aggressive monetization and the underlying technical issues that became glaringly obvious on stream. We documented what could have been.
