Nioh sliced into the house in 2020 and we were impressed. Team Ninja had crafted something that refused to simply copy Dark Souls—the combat rivaled FromSoftware in its own right. The Complete Edition bundled everything together when it hit PC in February 2021. We showcased fluid controls, snappy animations, and gameplay that proved the souls-like genre had room for innovation. Team Ninja stood alone while satisfying the same audience that conquered Lordran.
