Nioh at StreamerHouse
Nioh sliced into StreamerHouse in 2020, hitting 443 peak viewers for Team Ninja's souls-like that refused to simply copy Dark Souls. The Complete Edition launched February 5th, 2021 on PC (original PS4 release: March 2020), bundling all three DLCs for $50. StreamerHouse sessions showcased combat that rivaled FromSoftware's quality in a "very close call," with reviewers noting Nioh brought unique ideas that could become genre staples. The combat system was pure character-action game—closer to Devil May Cry than Dark Souls despite surface-level similarities like winding levels, respawning enemies, and brutal bosses. Critics praised fluid controls and snappy animations, calling it "one of the very best souls-like RPGs out there" and an "unapologetic masocore experience" for players willing to cast aside Dark Souls' lessons for new discipline. The PC port was "extremely solid" though embarrassingly lacked mouse/keyboard prompts. For StreamerHouse, Nioh proved the souls-like genre had room for innovation beyond swapping mechanics—Team Ninja crafted an individual paradigm that stood alone while satisfying the same audience that conquered Lordran and Yharnam across countless deaths.
