Tribes of Midgard at StreamerHouse

We defended Yggdrasil across 2021 and 2022—two years with Norsfell's Tribes of Midgard, a roguelike mashup that refused to fit into any single genre. The house loved what it was trying to do: action-RPG mechanics, survival gathering, tower defense against giants, roguelike progression that destroyed everything at Ragnarok. We'd assemble resources, build defenses, work with up to nine other players to take down world-ending creatures. The 10-player co-op sessions were chaotic and wonderful. But here's where Tribes stumbled: dying meant almost nothing for progression beyond cosmetics. The genre mashup worked brilliantly with friends—we knew our team, communicated, coordinated. But with randoms? The lack of meta-progression made every death sting. The house documented what happens when co-op design makes or breaks an experiment. Tribes had a foundation strong enough to keep us coming back for two years, but the core loop couldn't carry strangers.

Tribes of Midgard Twitch Statistics

We invested 34.5 hours across 2021 and 2022 in Tribes of Midgard, with 12,864 hours watched. Our average viewers held at 340 per stream, peaking at 523 during those early co-op sessions when the genre mashup was still novel. We gained 6 followers, modest numbers reflecting Tribes' position: niche multiplayer experience that found its audience but never exploded. The two-year spread shows community loyalty despite mechanical frustrations.
