February 2023. EA dropped Wild Hearts, their $70 swing at dethroning Monster Hunter. We locked in for 108.3 hours. Dynasty Warriors devs paired with EA Originals for the Karakuri crafting system—environmental tools that gave you new ways to hunt. The combat felt meaty, the traversal was creative, and the performance issues were... there. We streamed through the hunts, the weapon variety, the progression systems. Peak concurrent players on Steam hit 20,661 before crashing hard—the server population fell off a cliff post-launch. But during those weeks, we were there witnessing EA's bet, experiencing the Karakuri mechanics, appreciating the effort even as the game struggled to retain its audience. 541 peak viewers told the story of a solid launch hampered by live-service uncertainty.
